Staying in Melbourne

(N.Z.P.A. Staff Crspdtl SYDNEY. Gary Willetts, the New Zealand jockey, is to stay in Melbourne for a trial period. Willetts made the decision yesterday alter conferring at Flemington with Australia’s top two trainers. Bart Cummings and Tommy Smith. Smith said Willetts would get plenty of rides, being light, and would get opportunities because he was prepared to ride track work. Cummings said he would have plenty of rides for the New Zealander.

Willetts said he would be able to place his children at school in Melbourne. He would ride there for a trial, period before deciding whether to sell his Matamata farm and other interests.
