Air N.Z. wins $2¾m contract

Air New Zealand has negotiated a $2.74m contract to service Malaysian Airline System DCIO aircraft for two \ ears.

Air New Zealand is now negotiating similar contracts with other airlines.

The general manager of Air New Zealand (Mr C. J. Keppel) said that the Malaysian

contract, negotiated over 12 .months, represented a foreign-exchange earning I “Although it covers the two years until .September. 1978. it is possible that it could be extended to covet more aircraft.” he said Malaysian Airline System will take delivery of its first DCIU in August next year land its second 12 months later. The aircraft are almost identical to the six DClOs used by Air New Zealand The agreement covers the overhaul of engines and components at Air New Zea land’s jet base at Auckland Airport, and the aircraft will be flown to the jet base for inspection checks after 2000 hours in service. Repairs and modifications for the Malax sian aircraft might also be done at Mangere. Flight crews will be trained by Air New Zealand, and 20 engineers will train at Mangere. The contract would probably entail Air New Zealand engineers being seconded to M.A.S. in Kuala Lumpur for two-vear periods to maintain the DClOs.
