Hope abandoned
The French adventurer, Bernard Faton, almost two! months overdue on a lone trek across Australia’s for-' midable Simpson Desert, has been given up for dead, according to police. Faton, aged , 26. was last seen about 140 kilometres from the small I township of Finke on the! eastern edge of the desert; on the first stage of his 480- , kilometre walk to the Queensland town of Birdsville, where he was to have arrived by Sent ember 11 at : the latest'—Adelaide.
