(N.Z. Press Associatio?i) SYDNEY. The American pioneer astronaut. Colonel Leroy Cooper, predicts that the Moon will have to be coloniised soon because of overpopulation on the Earth. Speaking in Sydney, Colonel Cooper, who is 48 and piloted Mercury and Gemini spacecraft in the 19605, said: “People will be living on the Moon in the not-too-distant future. When the Earth becomes over-populated the authorities will be forced to colonise the Moon. “Many countries are already. suffering from a severe food shortage.” Colonel Cooper predicted that colonials would live in shelters on the Moon and cultivate its “rich” soil.
