Badminton rankings
The North Beach pair, Peter Whiting and I Alison Ross, have predictably been ranked the [top badminton players in Canterbury for the season just ended. This is the first year the Canterbury Badminton Association has produced ranking lists, and their worth will be better appreciated next season when the players named will have the goal of holding, or improving, their position. The men’s rankings are: — Whiting 1, G. Miller 2, W. Edgecumbe 3. P. Boatwood 4. L. K. Lee 5, B. Wilson 6, L. Robinson 7. J. Lang 8. C. Wasley 9, E. Kirkland 10. The top 10 women are:— Miss Ross 1, Mrs A. Chambers 2, Miss C. Reay 3, Mrs T. Perry 4. Miss D. Erikson 5, Mrs R. Erskine 6. Mrs P. Duckmanton 7, Miss S. Wells 8, Mrs P. Bader 9. Miss G. Ellis 10. There will be at least one vacancy on the men’s list next year, because Lee is shortly to return to Malaysia. An interesting point in the men’s list is that Jim Lang, who was not chosen for Idivisional play, has gained a place, but Brian Williams, who was a division two representative, is omitted. The only questionable
decision in the women’s list is the placement of Mrs Erskine ahead of Mrs Duckmanton, who was the victor in both their inter-club meetings. Junior rankings have also been compiled and they are:— Bovs. — P. Burn 1. D Ross 2. S. Harley 3. R Campbell 4. P. Wilson 5. G Kortegast 6. A. Overton 7, C. Drewett 8. Girls. — B. Maitland 1. K.
Burn 2. T. Germon 3. 1 Kitchingham 4. .1 Campbell 5. D. Kitchingham 6. R. Kerr 7, J. Macefield 8
