Singers invited to England
The Dorian Singers, of Auckland, have been invited to represent the Commonwealth at the Three Choirs Festival in Gloucester Cathedral. England, in August, 1977. The festival is held annually in Gloucester. Worcester or Hereford Cathedrals, and the 1977 festival will mark the two hundredth and fiftieth anniversary. Professor P. D. H. Godfrey, who led the Dorian Singers on their recent successful tour of Britain and Europe, 'aid he thought the choir would be happy to accept the invitation to perform at the festival. 1
But much would depend on j whether the Singers could raise the money needed to’ cover the cost of travelling to England and back. “I do not think the choir’ can be expected to spend as much time raising money as it did last time,” Professor Godfrey said “I would hope the Queen Elizabeth II Arts Council will help more this time.” Apart from a $lO,OOO Government grant and one of $4OOO from the arts council, all of the $llO,OOO needed for the choir’s recent tour was raised by choir members and by donations from business ifirms and local bodies. ’
