COMEDIAN VIES

The. French Actor and Stage Director, Jacques Charon has, died in Pais of a heart attack. He was 55. Charon, who joined the Comedie Francaise company in 1941, was considc ed one of France’s top comedians. At the Comedie Francaise he shone in Moliere’s classic plays, and directed Edmond Rostand’s “Cyrano de Bergerac," among other works. H was on stage the night before he died, acting in “L< Plus Heureux des Trois,” which he also directed. The son of a department store employee, Charon started studying business and English in England in 1938. But his passion for the theatre was so strong that he returned to France and. despite parental opposition secretly entered a drama school before starting with the Comedie Francaise.
