Skydiver dies at Blenheim
(N.Z. Press Association)
BLENHEIM, October 27.
A young woman died this afternoon when her parachute failed to open during a mass jump at Blenheim. She was Miss Joanne Kincaid, aged 21, a nurse, of Messines
Road, Karori, Wellington.
Miss Kincaid, whose parents are overseas, had made 26 previous jumps, but both her main and reserve parachute failed after she left a DC3 aircraft at 2700 ft with three other skydivers. About 50 parachutists visited Blenheim this weekend, hoping to break the Commonwealth free-fall linkup record, but high winds yesterday, and rain this morning, prevented the attempt, and only a few jumps were made.
