Chch woman nominated for I.C.W. office
Mrs Pat Aitken, of Christchurch, has been nominated for j the office of convener of the International Council of Women's housing committee. The invitation to stand came from Mrs Janet Pott (England), a vice-president of the 1.C.W.. and the nomination has been ratified b\ the .National Council of Women of .New Zealand.
Elections for the housing committee and others will be held at the I.C.W.’s biennial conference in Vancouver. Canada, next year. I feel it is an honour j for the Christchurch branch 'of N.C.W. to have a delegate put up for international office,' Mrs Aitken said i yesterday. Pat Aitken has been a delegate to the Christchurch i branch of N.C.W. for about ' 10 years, formerly from the Christchurch Federated Business and Professional Womens Club and now from the Associates Group. Christchurch Business and' Professional Women’s Club,} of which she is secretary and a past-president as well as being a member of the national federation of B. and, P. women's clubs. She is a foundation member of Friends at Court and a member of the Christchurch Civic Pride Committee. She is on the Christchurch International Women’s Year Committee and is a jointconvener (with Mrs Mae} Taurua) of its social welfare sub-committee.
N.Z. DELEGATION Four other New Zealand women have been nominated as conveners of I.C.W. standing committees. They are Mrs Miriam Dell, of Wellington, immediate-past president of the National Council of Women of New Zealand (physical environment standing committee); Mrs Mavis Tiller, of Wellington, a past national president of the N.C.W. (international relations and peace); Mrs Betty Holt, of Auckland (mass media), and Mrs Dawn Ibbotson of Dunedin (home economics). The delegation of 10 New Zealanders, which includes the five nominees for convening standing committees, will be led bv the national president of the N.C.W.. Mrs Grace Hollander, of Christchurch.
