Mathematics competition
The finals of the senior mathematics competition were held yesterday. They have been run for the last nine years by the Canterbury Mathematical Association under the sponsorship of IBM New Zealand. Ltd, and Whitcoulls.
The competition, in the form of an examination, not aligned to a school syllabus, attracted 850 entries from Form VI and Form VII pupils in secondary schools in Canterbury and the West Coast. From 10 finalists the winners were T. Whittington (Shirley Boys’ High School) 1, Elodie Meijer (Villa Maria College) 2, J. Tubb (Timaru Boys' High School) 3.
