A filly born recently on the property of an Ashburton trotting owner, breeder, and trainer, Mr J. Read, could be the last foal sired to Bachelor Hanover, New Zealand’s leading sire until it died six months ago. The foal’s breeding
could make it a future winner. Its dam, seen above with the foal, is Soft Magic, which is one of New Zealand’s foremost brood mares. Her first three offspring have proved successful on the race track. They are Ripper’s Delight, Doctor Voss, and Sonya Ann,
which collectively won 16 races last season. Ripper’s Delight was the top filly in Australia and New Zealand last term and her record of 10 wins included two wins in Australia. Among Ripper’s Delight’s wins last year were three of New Zea-
land’s major classic races, the Great Northern Oaks, the Great Northern Derby, and the Ladyship Stakes. Her Australian wins were a heat and the final of the New South Wales Oaks. Doctor Voss was recently sold to an American buyer.
