New national anthem

(N.Z Press Association) SALISBURY. Ten vears after seizing independence from Britain. Rhodesia at last has a national anthem. The music was chosen last year — 16 bars from Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony, “Ode to Joy,” and the words have been provided by Mrs Mary Bloom, a compulsive competition contestant whose most recent victory was first prize for naming a new cocktail bar in her home town of Gwelo. Her anthem, for which she wins a prize worth almost $3OO, begins: Rise, o voices of Rhodesia, God, may we thy bounty share. Give us strength to face all danger And, where challenge is, to dare.
