Unusual death from hepatitis

A girl who died in Christchurch this week may have been the first person to have died after contracting infective hepatitis in the city in five years. The Christchurch district Medical Officer of Health (Dr L. F. Jepson) said yesterday that deaths from the infection were uncommon. A few had died of infec-

five hepatitis in other parts of New Zealand in recent years but the last recorded death in Christchurch was probably at least five years ago. Dr Jepson said that infective hepatitis was not increasing. He said that the number of people contracting the infection had risen until about five years ago, but had since remained steady.
