Surf races mid-week

Surf lifesaving is now almost an all-week sport. A crowded post-New Year itinerary and daylight saving persuaded the Canterbury Surf Lifesaving Association to incorporate mid-week twi-i light carnivals into its programme. The visit near the end of January of an 11-man Victorian team has forced the association’s hand —not that the competitors are likely to mind the build-up of competition in the weeks before the national championships at Paekakariki at the end of February.

The schedule of carnivals for the season is:— November 30, first Canterbury carnival (Sumner). December 14. second Canterbury carnival (North Beach). January 18. third Canterbury carnival (New Brighton). January 22. twilight carnival for 11-man club teams v. Victoria (Waimairi). January 29, first test, Canterbury v. Victoria (South Brighton). January 31-February 1 (morning only), Southern, Regional championships. Feb-’ ruary 1 (afternoon only), second ’ test. including Otago ; (both Taylors Mistake). Feb-’ ruary 15, fourth Canterbury’: carnival (South Brighton). February 27-March 1. national and national inter-; |district championships (Pae-; ikakariki). March 7, Kestevenl I Cup day (Taylors Mistake).
