Ashburton man top in country
A former Ashburton man. Mr A. J. Ruck, aged 25. has won this year's Walsh Memorial award for the leading aircraft engineering apprentice in New Zealand. The award will entitle him to work for a year with the Boeing Aircraft Company in Seattle, to gain experience in aircraft manufacture He will r'so spend six weeks in the factory of Pratt and Whitney, a major manufacturer of aircraft engines Mr Ruck is a son of Mr and Mrs J Ruck, of Alford Forest Road. Ashburton. He was educated at Allenton School, and at Ashburton Hig*’ School. After leaving school he joined the National Airways Corporation at Christchurch Airport to train as an aircraft engineer. He was transferred to the Corporation's Auckland workshops last month for further training The Walsh Memona! award commemorates the names o* two pioneer New Zealand aviators. Vivian and Leo Walsh. It is granted annually bv the New Zealand Aeronautical Trusts. Ltd. a company founded bv the New Zealand division of the Roval Aeronautical Society The award is rhe second success for the Ruck family this year.
