Cycle race handicaps

(N.Z. Press Association) MELBOURNE. The New Zealand cycling champion Doug Herbert, has been handicapped on 24 minutes for the 257 km Melbourne to Warrnambool Classic on October 11. The 26-year-old national road champion will be one of 215 cyclists in the classic, which will be started by the former New Zealand cyclist, Phil O’Shea. The limit mark for the field has been increased to 65 minutes, from 60 minutes in previous years. The eight scratchmen will be Don Wilson, Hilton Clarke, Graham McVilly, John Trevorrow, Don Allan, Ken Evans, John Bylsma, and Laurie Venn.
