' The Kalgoorlie sting’

A Perth racehorse oyvner and big punter has been. disqualified for tyvo years over what is being called the “Kalgoorlie Sting.” Steyvards of the West Australian Turf Club found that Mr Laurie Connell, of Dalkeith, had backed a Melbourne horse yvith Kalgoorlie bookmakers on September 3 after the horse had won its race. Bookmakers paid out $3OOO on the horse, His Worship. There yvas a flood of late money for the horse in the Kalgoorlie Interstate Ring, bringing its price from 4 to 1 against to 3 to 1 on. Immediately after the race, Kalgoorlie bookmakers complained the horse had been backed after the race was run. They alleged a tape recording of the race had been broadcast throughout Western Australia some minutes after the event had I finished. :
