Steady prices for lamb The Smithfield market was well supplied with most commodities last week, and a steady inquiry maintained prices, the London office of the New Zealand Meat Board reports. The French market remained open, but there was plentiful supplies of British lamb. New Zealand lamb cleared readily throughout the week and prices tended to be firmer for the lighter grades. Prices for New Zealand lamb were:— Prim*.— Price Var’n P P per lb per lb 281 b and under 31.0-31.5 n.c. 291 b to 361 b .. 28.5-29.5 -0.25 371 b to 421 b .. 27.0-28.0 n.c. I 431 b to 561 b 26.0-27.0 n.c. (nominal) Y Grade—281b and under 28.0-29.0 4-0.25 • 291 b to 361 b .. 27.5-28.5 -0.25 Lamb cut*.— Legs 45.5-46.5 n.c. Long loins 33.5-34.5 +0.50 ■Shoit fores 23.0-24.0 n.c. Demand for boneless beef softened a little as some buyers adopted a wait-and-see attitude after the major price increase in September, reports the boards’ New York office. The increases made imported beef more expensive than the same class of United States manufacturing beef. Although the frozen domestic product met stronger interest it has not made up this unusual price difference.
