WALL STREET LAST WEEK
Rally but mixed feelings The Wall Street share market ended last week with a good rally which gave net gains for the week. Industrials lost ground early in the week, amid concern over the size of the Federal Budget deficit, and its potential impact on interest rates. Investors are already troubled by rising interest rates. The outlook for the economic recovery, and fresh money problems for New York city, are also considered as grounds for caution in the sharemarket. But on Friday the market swung upward aided by some let-up in interest rate, and inflation worries. Brokers said that there were some feelings of relief when the wholesale price index for September showed a rise at a 7.2 per cent annual rate, compared with 9.6 per cent the month before.
