MANAGER FOR SCHOOL BODY
Mr M. J. Richards, who has been employed by the Christchurch Secondary Schools Council for 25 vears. as accountant and later as executive officer for finance, has been appointed general manager. He will take up his new duties in February. Mr Richards was educated at the Hokitika and Christchurch West high schools, and the University of Canterbury, where he passed the accountancy professional examination in 1951. He has been the secretarv for the Rangiora High School for the last 13 years, and is also secretary for the Four Avenues School. Mr Richards is active in scouting and guiding, tramping, and squash. Last -’ear he was a member of 'he CanterburyWestland Advisory Council of the Educational development Conference. The council was established 26 years ago. to provide six schools with secretarial and accounting
staff. It now serves 17 schools, each of which have a board member on the council. In 1953, the Education Act was amended to allow schools in other districts to adopt the system, but only Wellington and Nelson have established councils.
