SUBSIDY OF $500
The connections of the winner of the New Zealand Cup and Guineas Trial at the Banks Peninsula Racing Club’s meeting at Motukarara on November 1 will, In addition to the winning share of the $2OOO stake, receive a travelling subsidy worth $5OO provided by the Avondale Jockey Club.
Avondale’s offer of a travelling subsidy to race at its meeting, where the principal events are the $35,000 Avondale Cup and the $BOOO Avondale Guineas, on December 10 and 13 will apply only if the winner is a South Island horse.
This year the New Zealand Cup and Guineas Trial will be run over 1600 m and will cater for class one, two and three horses and three-year-olds which have won one race or more. The distance of the open sprint, the Le Bons Handicap, has been reduced from 1400 m to 1200 m. Other changes from last year’s programme are the inclusion of a 2200 m event, worth $l2OO. for class three, four and five horses, and making the high-weight an event for classes four, five and maidens.The club will also pay a fifth prize of $2O in the three races for maiden horses only. Another new event on the programme will be a race for class one and two pacers. This race, over 2800 m, will be worth Sl2OO.
