ROAD TEST ON CAR RADIOS Much written space is devoted to the performance of cars. To assist the public we conducted tests on car radios. Two N.Z. made, brands X and Y, one Japanese partially assembled in N.Z. (Clarion) and one imported from Japan (Ten). The test toute was Christchurch to Christchurch via the Haast Pass. The results confirmed bench tests. One New Zealand made radio was impossible by Springfield and the remaining New Zealand made one received Christchurch only. The •'Clarion” and “Ten” appeared greatly superior giving local and Dunedin and West Coast Stations with ease while travelling. It was obvious that the “Ten” end “Clarion’' were vastly superior. Enroute Hokitika to Haast it was possible to listen to 3YC end 4YC, while Brand X was good for the West Coast Station only. > South of For a comprehensive test was carried out. Brand X was capable of use on two West Coast Stations. 20-odd stations were hoard on both the "Ten” end “Clarion” brands. At Knights Point IZB Auckland was clearly received along with many other stations. A later test was made on a trip to the Egglington Valley: with the •*100" and “Clarion” good reception. The Now Zealand made (Brand X), was discarded because it was not just good enough. These radios in most cases cost less than the more familiar New Zealand made radios.
