Aviation awards of $750

Two aviation scholarships will be awarded to teen-agers competing in the New Zealand Air Force association’s youth competition. The scholarships, worth $750, will go towards the flying or ground training courses.

Fifty young people from Timaru, Ashburton, the West Coast and Christchurch will be interviewed by a panel of judges at the regional final this Saturday. Contestants will be questioned about aviation, and they will be assessed on personality and suitability to aviation.

The judges are Captain M. R. McFardan (district senior pilot in Christchurch), Mr P. C. Mayne (chief flying instructor at the Canterbury Aero club), and Mr W. R. Reynolds (regional chairman for the New Zealand Air Force Association).

The winner will go to the national final in Wellington later this month.
