PRISON DRAMA
Googie Withers stars as a prison governor in a new 13-part drama series, “Within These Walls,” which will begin on TV2 on Friday. She plays the part of Faye Boswell, appointed to take charge of a top-security women’s prison. The series covers different aspects of the new governor’s life and environment, her attempts to put through reforms, and her successes and failures with the prisoners and staff. Co-starring in the programmes are Jerome Willis as Charles Radley, the governor's assistant, and Raymond Adamson as her husband, Bill. Googie Withers was educated in England, and made her first professional appearance at London’s Victoria Palace. She is married to an Australian actor, John McCallum, and has frequently appeared in films and on television. In the first episode of this series, Faye Boswell has just been appointed to her position. One prisoner who has been remanded in custody until her trial, has lost weight. Her solicitor attributes this to nervous exhaustion and maltreatment. The story makes headlines and the local M.P. arrives to investigate.
