Pay-outs for G’omwell

'Fartaimentorv Reporter) | WELLINGTON, October 1. The Government intended: to adopt new methods oft compensation for those af-: fected by the Clutha Valley hydro-electricity project because of unusual features of the scheme, the Prime Minister (Mr Rowling) told Parliament today. He said this was the mean-j ing of a statement reported! in “The Press” of September 1 18 that new methods would' apply only to the Clutha! Valley scheme in the meantime. Replying to a question by] Mr R. L. G. Talbot (NatSouth Canterbury), Mr Rowl-, ing said present services: would be removed with the! flooding of the commercial! area of Cromwell, and at the same time a substantially increased service would be : needed in a relatively short oeriod to cater for the five-; fold increase in population. “Clearly these unusual cir-: cqmstances require special • compensation procedures.! Should similar circumstances! occur elsewhere, there is no reason why the same! measures should not be ap-i plied.” said Mr Rowling.
