Sport policy criticised
f.V.Z.P.A.Reuter —Copyright) JOHANNESBURG. The South African Government’s policy of allowing nonwhites to play only in invitation teams against visiting overseas sides was not good enough. Mr Boon Wallace. the retiring president of the South African Cricket Association said in Johannesburg. “Mixed cricket is coming and most people will welcome it.” Mr Wallace told the association’s annual meeting. S.A.C-A. accepted the idea of cricketers of all races playing together and at least four provincial unions were investigating the question of Integrated cricket in domestic leagues, Mr Wallace said.
He described the English Cricket Council’s abandonment of the 1976-77 M.C.C. tour of South Africa as “a wrong decision.” in view of the efforts being made to achieve multiracial cricket in the republic. Cricket bodies representing Indian, African, white and Coloured (mixed-race) cricket associations have so far failed tc Breduce8 reduce a formula for integral ig their leagues, and furthei meetings are planned. So far clubs have not got around to opening their doors tc ail races.
