Misleading, says Mr Gandar
(N Z. Press Association) PALMERSTON NORTH, September 30. Mr Moyle’s prediction last night of a rosy year ahead for sheepfarmers has brought strong reaction from
(Mr L. W. Gandar, National i member of Parliament for Ruahine. “Resentment, anger, and frustration can only result from his latest statement that farmers' incomes will rise 72 per cent in the coming year,” he said. “Such a statement is meant deliberately to mislead townspeople and to incite a feeling of resentment towards farmers. “This is a time for absolute honesty as we are all in the present economic difficulties together.” Stock numbers had fallen with a loss of overseas income, and because of lack of income last year, many farmers were unable to topdress or keep up repair and maintenance. “Mr Moyle should know that prices paid this year for lamb, mutton, and wool will be well above market realisation and only kept at this level by massive borrowing, from the Reserve Bank.”
