MINISTER ‘SHOULD RESIGN’
The Minister of Energy Resources (Mr Freer) should resign immediately because of denials last week that petrol pricerises and rationing were in view, said Social Credit candidates in Canterbury last evening.
The Government could have moved toward offsetting the oil crisis through internal measures during the last two years, they said. But only last week, Mr Freer had attacked Social Credit for spreading rumours about a price-rise and the prospect of rationing. Candidates asked what progress had been made to develop a wood alcohol to mix with petrol for motorvehicles, or development of a plant to extract by-products, including methanol for motor fuel, from lignite coal deposits in Southland. The Government could also have publicised the advantages of commuter carpooling, they said.
