Employment policy

Sir, —Mr Freer’s policy of employment to the fullest possible extent in this recession period deserves our earnest support in the light of the 1930 depression experiences. In the King Country then, With the timber mills closed and most on the dole, the depressing effect on small communities is an unforgettable memory. Mr Muldoon, recalling the time, said “people could go to the beaches,” to which I reply that most could not on dole money. People matter more than money, and gainful employment supports human dignity which die dole tends to undermine.—Y.ours, etc., H. BECK. September 29, 1975.
