Mr Ford might visit N.Z.
President Ford might visit New Zealand late this year after his first official visit to Peking, White House officials said in Washington yesterday.
Reports from the White House said that President Ford might come to New Zealand during a tour of Asia, and the Pacific. The Prime Minister (Mr Rowling) said yesterday that Mr Ford would he assured of a warm welcome if he decided to visit New Zealand in December. An N.Z.P.A. message from Wellington last evening said that President Ford had a standing invitation to visit New Zealand, and that this had been renewed when Mr Rowling visited Washington earlier this year. The last visit by a United States President to New Zealand was in 1966, When President Lyndon Johnson came to Wellington for talks with the then Prime Minister (Sir Keith Holyoake).
