Increases in beef schedule

(N.Z. Press Association)

WELLINGTON, Sept. 26. Regional increases of up to 6.5 c are contained in the export beef schedule released by the Meat Board today. The regional minimum payments to producers will begin from Monday, and are further to increases already anounced by the board. Producers in the Hawke’s Bav region will receive increases of 4.5 c to 6.5 c a kilogram above the announced national minimum payments. In the Auckland region, increases range from 1c to 3.5 c a kilogram. Payments for the “rest of the North Island” remain the same as those previously announced, apart from "M” grade cattle, where producers will receive an extra 2c. Higher processing rates for lighter-weight cattle is the main consideration in designating the South Island as the minimum region for “M” grade carcases. Except for LI and L2 grade carcases, South Island producers will receive further increases of 1.5 c to 3c a kilogram. The board will pay the same level of supplementary payment for individual grades and weight ranges throughout New Zealand, regardless of regional schedule variations.
