Drugs taken in hold-up
A man armed with a 22 rifle held up the North Beach Pharmacy at 165 Bowhill Road, North New Brighton, during late-night shopping, about 8.40 last evening. Mr E. R. Alexander, the proprietor of the pharmacy, was working in the back of his shop when the buzzer sounded. He realised there was someone behind him when he heard a voice say, “Fm desperate man, get it quickly, hurry up and don’t turn around.”
He saw a man pointing a ~22 rifle at him. Mr Alexander went to the wall safe and took out two 1 bottles of tincture of opium | and an empty methadone ; bottle, and placed them in a rubbish bag. The man then ran from the shop with the rubbish. bag.
This is the third time that the pharmacy has been held up, the last time being about 12 months ago. The police consider the I tincture of opium to be of [little value as far as drugs I are concerned. The drug squad is searching for a European in his I early 20s. sft 7in tall, slim I build, with thin facial 'features. At the time of the robbery he was wearing a brown sports jacket, and a blue shirt or jersey, and he had a stocking over his face.
