Sobeit’s trip called off
(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON. The Te Awamutu mare. Sobeit, will miss the Melbourne Cup this spring, her trainer, Bill Saunders, has said. Sobeit has failed to race up to expectations since resuming in late July and has not found sufficient form to warrant a trip across the Tasman. The Woodville jockey, Noel Harris, who was to ride Sobeit, is left without a Melbourne Cup ride, but he still intends to go to Melbourne. Harris is remembered in Melbourne for ills controversial hanfiling of Glengowan, runner-up to Gala Supreme in the 1973 Melbourne Cup.
