Press Ansociution) AUCKLAND, Sept. 24 ' A 8250,000 block of flats in Freemans Bay. built and owned by the Auckland University Students’ Association, was opened by the Prime Minister (Mr Rowling) today The flats, in Collingwood Street, will accommodate 34 students. The project is the first one of its type under taken by a students’ association. It was funded by a Housing Corporation loan, a grant, from the Education Reserves Trust, and association funds. the flats were suggested in 1972 as a partial answer to the need for low-rent student accommodation The Association felt that if old houses were bought and renovated this would cause conflict with other low income groups. The rental has been set at $l2 a-student a week. The incoriie is expected to [service .capital and interest I payments on the borrowed [funds. The flats will be 'supervised by the University Accommodation Office.
