Sportswoman award
A New Zealand Sportswoman of the Year award, to be first presented in November, is being sponsored by TV2. The channel states that its award will not clash with the objects of the Murray Halberg Trust — that of aiding crippled children through a sportsmen’s dinner. Only two women have won the prestigious New Zealand Sportsman of the Year award. The judging hand for the new award will be Vai Young. the well-known Canterbury athlete, Marjory Jenden, secretary of the New Zealand Netball Association and Dorothy Simons, sports administrator and sports writer, and, to preserve the International Woman’s Year tenet of equality, three men complete! the panel. They are Michael Scott,] sports producer for TV2,I [John Buckingham, president! of the New Zealand Feder-1 ation of Sport and Peter Devlin, sports editor of the] [“Auckland Star.” | The judges will consider | every nomination — forms ' have already been sent to I sports organisations — beIfore drawing up a list of [four finalists. Television Two will then feature each of them on consecutive weeks on “Sports World” on Sunday afternoons. The features will begin on October 4, and final judging and presentation of the trophy will be made live on the programme on November 2.
