PROFESSOR/ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR/ SENIOR LECTURER DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION (7/11/75) APPLICATIONS are invited for the Professorship of the Department of Education. The appointee will be expected to provide leadership within the Department in both teaching and research. There are no administrative responsibilities involved although the Professor is eligible for election to positions carrying such responsibilities. In 1975 the Department of Education has 11 academic staff members. In addition to the Department, the Faculty of Education includes an Educational Research Unit and a Teaching Methods and Materials Centre. From an initial role in the pre-service preparation of graduate high school teachers, emphasis in the Department’s teaching is now shifting towards in-service work at Diploma and Degree levels with teachers at all levels and with other educators in Papua New Guinea. There is a close relationship between the Department and the various institutions and bodies associated with the Ministry of Education. LECTURER IN ACCOUNTING (24/10/75) THE ECONOMICS DEPARTMENT has a vacancy for a Lecturer in Accounting, preferably with ah interest in the taxation and auditing fields. The appointment will be initially for one' year from February 1976, with a strong possibility of reappointment for a further three years. TUTOR IN MATHEMATICS (2 Positions) (10/10/75) APPLICATIONS are invited from suitably-qualified persons for the above positions. The main teaching responsibility will be in the Preliminary Year, a pre-matriculation year conducted by the University. The Department, which has an academic staff of eighteen headed by Professor J. O. Newton, carries out work in nuclear structure physics. At present, main research activities are in the brood areas of heavy-ion iterations, direct interactions and nuclear spectroscopy. The Deportment operates two major accelerators. The 14UD Pelletron Tandem Accelerator (14 MV terminal) was installed in 1973 and is now in regular use for research work, mainly in the heavy-ion field. The EN tandem (6MV terminal) is provided with o negotive-ion cyclotron injector enabling acceleration of proton and deuteron beams with energies up to 38 and 26 MeV respectively.
