Aust, market closes on firmer note
Most sections of Australian stock exchanges closed on a firmer note yesterday in subdued trading, in the wake of further buying support. Among the industrial shares, Winns rose 9c to 120 c on a turnover of 77,000 units on the Sydney exchange. Cyclone, Bums Philp, Jennings, Carlton and United Breweries, and Woolworths recorded small gains. Boral reacted to its profit rise by reaching 180 c before settling at 176 c, for a slight gain. B.H.P. was 4c firmer at 704 c, while the Wales rose 6c to 602 c. The higher gold price helped Emperor rise 7c to 102 c and G.M.K. 2c at 92c. A.M.S., Hamersley, W.M.C., North B.H. were marginally better. Low-priced oil shares like Woodside-Burmah, Ocean Resources, Weeks, and International Oil also moved up slightly. SYDNEY
