Walkways legislation
(A’.Z. Press Association: WELLINGTON, Sept. 5. Legislation providing for a network of public walkways throughout New Zealand was passed by Parliament today. The Minister of Lands (Mr Rata) said the provisions of the New Zealand walkways bill would be of considerable ■ satisfaction to New Zealand citizens. The most important principle of the bill, he said, was to ensure that the New Zealander enjoyed his own country. The Opposition's spokesman on the environment, Mr V. S. Young (Egmont) said that the hill’s objects had the "unequivocal endorsement” of the National Party.
Soccer.—Wall'’ Barnes, the Arsenal and Wales soccer left bark in the late 1940 s and earlv 19505. has died in hospital after a short illness. He was 55.
