Walkways legislation

(A’.Z. Press Association: WELLINGTON, Sept. 5. Legislation providing for a network of public walkways throughout New Zealand was passed by Parliament today. The Minister of Lands (Mr Rata) said the provisions of the New Zealand walkways bill would be of considerable ■ satisfaction to New Zealand citizens. The most important principle of the bill, he said, was to ensure that the New Zealander enjoyed his own country. The Opposition's spokesman on the environment, Mr V. S. Young (Egmont) said that the hill’s objects had the "unequivocal endorsement” of the National Party.
