Building to come down

The Social Welfare Department building in Hereford Street is to be demolished. Most of the workers moved out of the building yesterday, after the building was found to be structurally unsound. After all the files have been removed the building will be demolished. The district inspector for the State Services Commission (Mr N. Smart) said yesterday that he had instructed the Ministry of Works to demolish the building. The long-term plans for the site are flexible, but Mr Smart said it would probably be used as a car-park initially.
