Aintree to be auctioned

Aintree racecourse, home of the Grand National for 136 years is to be auctioned, the Press Association has confirmed. The auction will take place in London on Thursday. October 16, a statement from the owners, the Walton Commercial Group, said.
A senior partner in the firm of chartered surveyors handling the auction said: “Apart from possible British buyers, there must also be many potential overseas purchasers. “We expect the sale to arouse great interest throughout the world.”
Less than a fortnight ago. it was announced that a £3m takeover bid by an Irishman. Mr Patrick McCrea, for the course had fallen through.
The 260-acre course was bought by a director of the Wai ton Group, Mr Bill Davies, in 1973. It is thought the purchase price was £3m.
