Law Society seeks counsel
'Actc Zealand Press .Association' AUCKLAND. The secretary of the Auckland Law Society (Mr G. R. Wear) will attempt to find a solicitor for a man who claimed in the Supreme Court that he had to represent himself in a civil action against an Auckland lawyer.
Mr G. D. Martin, a dairy’ owner, of Te Atatu. told Mr Justice Somers, that he had approached eight lawyers in an attempt to get counsel in an action for alleged breach of contract against a solicitor, Mr.’ J. S. Henn-. He said the high regard in which Mr; Henn- was held by the legal: profession had prevented his obtaining counsel. His Honour adjourned ths case sine die to ailow Mr Martin to make further attempts to obtain counsel. He suggested that Mr Martin approach the Law Society. Mr Wear said that Mi Martin had approached the,
society, and he (Mr Wear was now attempting to fine , counsel for him. He had compiled a list oi lawyers who would be suit able to handle the case, anc was approaching them t< see whether they were prepared to take it and had the ;time to do so. As far as Mr Wear kne-. there was nothing to compc a lawyer to accept a brief Refusals did occur for » number of reasons, such a having too much work, th lawyer's feeling that he wr lot the right man for th type of case, or f ?e'ing th the case was hopeless am hus refusing to accept i iout of honesty.
