Waipounamu looks a good prospect at Addington

Unless some of the others have improved out of sight during the week the issue in the Winter Handicap at \ddington Raceway tonight should again be between Armbro Lady and Waipounamu.

These two will clash again in the principal etent for trotters on the second night of the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting ( luh’s National meeting. Last Saturday night Ar-, tnbro Lady’* five-tear-old racing began as her previous season's racing had conHer final win as a four-year-old had been a runaway affair but last week she got there by only half a neck from Waipounamu; and the rest, led home by Rodney Dale, were welt down the track. Armbro Lady’s latest vic-

tory earned her a 10m penalty and, assuming ail other factors remain equal, that might be just enough to swing the scales in Waipounamu s favour tonight. Rodnev Dale is not renowned for his winning wavs since he graduated to this class — his lone success last season was on this course in April — but he is’ usually in pretty solid form about this time of the year. Twelve months ago he finished third on both nights of the National meeting, so if he manages a similar placing tonight history will have repeated itself. The same will be said if Jillinda. fourth last Saturday but still nearly 10 lengths

I pretty well on the second ! night and it is generally ex-’l pected that the same pattern ] will follow tonight. Lunar Chance and Nood- . lum, the principals in the : i finish of last week’s Louis- I son Handicap, are again;, I likely to dominate things in ( the National Handicap, first., leg of tonight’s T.A.8.: double. 1

The issue is not quite as clear-cut in the second leg,: the Royal Ascot Handicap,' but form points strongly to; the prospects of Sergeant Phil, Armbro Circle and Hurrania. Bound To Be and Captain Jura, both first-night winners. will be a popular combination for the double for course patrons only. This double will be run on the Wild and Young Quinn Handicaps.
