Power failure at Lyttelton

A three-hour power cut at Lyttelton yesterday, caused by a fault at Heathcote, made a chilly interlude at the port from about noon to 3 p.m. Ships in port were only slightly affected, as rain had already interrupted work in the early afternoon. But the power failure affected the working of the roll-on vessel Hawea, which normally works through wet weather, but was prevented from doing so by the failure. By 3 p.m., all labour except at the port, that working the Union Auckland and the Hawea, had been dismissed because of wet weather.
