Mr P. O. Fairfax, of Wellington, has been appointed New Zealand Corisul-General and Trade Commissioner in Athens. Mr Fairfax joined the Department of Trade and Industry in 1958. gaining knowledge of New Zealand’s manufacturing and agricultural industries before being appointed Counsellor (commercial) in Paris from 1966 to 1972. While in Paris, he worked on aspects of the negotiation of special arrangements for New Zealand arising out of British membership of the European Economic Community. On his return to Wellington, Mr Fairfax was assistant director of the Industrial Development Division, responsible for industrial, resource, and regional development. For the last year, he has been director of the Economics Division, with additional responsibilities as an alternate director on the boards of the Offshore Mining Company, Ltd, and Maui Development, Ltd. Mr Fairfax will take up his new post in September.
