Hauliers to seek to raise rates

(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Aug. 21. The Road Transport Association will apply for a cartage-rate increase as a result of the recent devaluation of the dollar. The association’s executive director (Mr B. P. Cresham) said today that carriers could not absorb the cost increases stemming from devaluation. It would probably be October before the association lodged an application for a rate increase with the Ministry of Transport. “We can apply to recover only cost increases that have actually been incurred,” he said.
