Brief court appearance

(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Aug. 21. A Wellington solicitor, Mr Michael Bungay, made a very brief appearance as counsel in the traffic court today. Mr Bungay appeared for a client in the Magistrate’s Court wearing a brown coat over the top of his suit. < The presiding Magistrate, Mr N. L. Bradford, S.M., told Mr Bungay that he could not see him. “I’m here, eight feet away,” Mr Bungay said. “Take off your coat in

my court,” Mr Bradford said. “I’ll leave court,” Mr Bungay replied, and left. Mr Bungay said from Wellington last evening that he had worn the coat because he had the flu. “Besides, there was another counsel wearing a coat, as well,” he said. Asked why he had left the court-room, Mr Bungay said: “The Magistrate couldn’t see me, so I left.” He said his unscheduled departure from the court had had no effect on his client’s case.
