Two police constables, who were convicted of theft in the Christchurch Magistrate’s; Court yesterday, would have: a report of their case taken ■ before the Commissioner of Police (Mr K. B. Burnside).l the Christchurch District; Police Commander (Mr G. E. Twentyman) said last even-1 ing. - Nigel Mark Longstaff. aged 20. and Stephen Robert: Leggett, aged 21, were convicted and discharged by Mri B. A. Palmer. S.M.. for stealing six bottles of beer to supply an early-morning police party. " J On reviewing the case, the commissioner would decide if it was necessary to dismiss; the constables, Mr Twenty-: man said. He said that dismissal from the police force after a conviction had been entered was not mandatory and was up! to the commissioner to de-< cide. (Case, page 3)
