Europe has been sweltering in its hottest summer in 20 years. It has been so hot that railway tracks have buckled in England and the Netherlands, street vendors in Stockholm ran out of ice-cream, local authorities in the Normandy region of France imposed water rationing, and crowds packed beaches and parks everywhere.—London.
