, —————. — r n t $ 1 ' . KITEFLYING ! ; A WARNING TO PARENTS AND CHILDREN ! DURING EACH KITE FLYING SEASON, staff of this Department spend much 1 it time removing kites which have become entangled in the overhead electric s “ wires. As many as 23 have been removed in a single day. « I. Whilst the cost to the Department for this work is high our principal i '• concern is for the safety of the children whose kites contact the overhead t wires. A moist kite string in contact with a 230-volt line can have very 1 □ serious results for a person holding the string. It should be remembered that . r- this Department also owns more than 150 miles of lines operating at 11,000 ° volts and 66,000 volts, from which lines the danger is many times greater. With the risk so real the Department urges parents, teachers and others ’ ;• in charge of children to alert their charges to the dangers which the children mav not see for themselves. i 11 d Do not fly kites where they may become entangled in overhead wires. !t o Abandon any kite, should it become entangled, and please inform the ? Department, telephone 61-819, extension 857. c o A timely warning can prevent a tragedv. 3 MUNICIPAL ELECTRICITY DEPARTMENT, { CHRISTCHURCH, 2946 I
