New Zealand Apple and Pear Marketing Board GENERAL MANAGER The Board is a statutory body established in terms of the Apple and Pear Marketing Act of 1948. It is responsible for the acquisition and marketing, both locally and overseas of apples and pears grown in or imported into New Zealand. Its capital assets total almost $14,000,000 and annual turnover now exceeds $34,000,000. At peak seasonal demand the staff totals some 700 based on branches throughout New Zealand. An office is also maintained in London. The General Manager is the chief executive and responsible directly to the Board for the control and development of the marketing, operational and financial functions together with the direction of all staff. The location is in Head Office, Wellington. Applicants must already hold a senior managerial position. Formal Qualifications would be an advantage but are not as essential as the ability to plan and organise, the personality to encourage and direct management, and a thorough knowledge of modern marketing methods. Some experience of the fruit industry particularly relating to apples and pears would also be of advantage.
